Leeds is an unlikely place to find two young guys from a beach town in Argentina, so how did they end up freezing their asses off here with us in the North of England? Well, Fernando Pulichino and Julian Sanza began their journey from Mar del Plata on the mid-West Argentine coast in 1999 when they travelled to London to settle in the Capital. Fernando’s route to the UK took him via Ibiza where he spent three summer seasons playing bass over Balearic legend Alfredo’s sets at Space and jamming at some of the island’s best underground parties.
With both eventually settling in London, Fernando and keyboard player Julian put their energy into securing a record contract, which they achieved in 2000 when their Barrenador LP was released on Argentinian label Estatus Discos. This was to form the blueprint for their funky bassline-fuelled house and they went on to develop their sound with excellent releases on Parisian labels 75 House Street and Silver Network. But things really started to move for the boys when they sent a demo to us in May 2002, which resulted in their first release, 1969, the following year. At the end of 2003 Silver City became fully fledged member of the 2020 crew as they moved oop North to Leeds to develop the label’s new live project 2020Soundsystem with Ralph Lawson and Danny ‘Dubble D’ Ward. They have since gone on to tour the world with the band after releasing their massively successful debut No Order in 2006 and are currently holed up in Sweatshop Studios once more finishing off their new album chalked up for release in spring 2008.
After releasing several top quality singles, and alongside their work with 2020Soundsystem, Silver City produced an incredibly successful debut album for us in 2005 which showed how the boys can apply their musical talents and production skills to a variety of musical genres, including house, P-funk, disco and rock, to deliver a truly live sound.
