It all started on September 30th of 1976 when Jake entered this world in Austin, Texas. Growing up in a musical environment Jake's life mission was obviously going to be some expression in music. His father's 9-5 was playing and touring with the Navy Jazz band as one of the trumpet players and, following in his the footsteps of his father, Jake soon began to pick up the trumpet. The guitar, bass, and keys soon followed into Jakes hands and ears. The willingness to spend time practicing coupled with an open mind to new sounds took Mr. Childs through rock to jazz to techno to house.
His early experiences with dance music in the 90's mostly took place in San Antonio's various clubs, raves and at endless after-hours parties. It was during this time that Jake undertook and subsequently dropped out from studying for a music business and audio degree. After moving to Houston all other styles of music took a back seat to house as Jake was influenced by the MK Ultra radio show on Rice's KTRU, the Scooby Dew Crew's events and Wednesday nights at the Orbit Room. An invitation from the S.D.C. to perform a live PA also turned into a period of steady work with production company The Dance Junkies.
Working relationships over the next couple of years with Johnny Fiasco, Chris Lumm, LBO, Chello and Paul Dyne helped to solidify the next logical step, to start a record label. Uni.form Recordings was born; the first release was simply a promo CD mix by Sista Stroke titled "Soulquarian." This cemented in Jakes mind what he wanted to do, namely to develop and nurture Uni.form's identity as an entity as well as help develop and support the artists that would come to be on the label. The roster boasts some of the best of the new producers as well as legends in the world of house including Johnny Fiasco, Jacob London, No Assembly Firm, Pete Dafeet, Blacksoul, Matt Bandy, Swirl People, Natural Rhythm, Inland Knights, Santiago and Bushido and Vernon And Dacosta.
The future promises to deliver many frequent flyer miles with worldwide bookings ranging from New Zealand, South Africa, South America and all across Europe. Jake's production work has appeared on labels such as Drop Music, Seasons, Fetish, Dust Traxx, Housetown and Vista. Following the huge success of Jake's first two releases on Drop Music will be a full length album. Don't expect a bunch of dj singles (though they are inevietable) on the full length as the plans are for a real artist album that can be listened to beginning to end with a vision destination in mind. Additional projects are lined up alongside Tango/Nightshift/Detour boss Tony Hewitt. Throw in the Agenda Media Group and a music promotions company and it looks like the only shut eye may be on the plane.
Jake's work ethic and strength of vision will no doubt elevate his productions, label and promotions company to a reputation and status of world class. He may already be there but don't tell him, yet!
