Jay West

Jay West has catapulted onto the deep/funky house scene over the past two years.   Producing music since the age of 12 Jay has always been involved in music as a songwriter, guitar and keyboard player, and even as a singer in several funk bands in his home country Argentina . It didn't take him long to fall in love with house music and started spinning records with great success.

By the age of 25 Paul Velvet (his DJ alias) had become an important part of South America's house scene, gigging at some of the most important venues and festivals alongside some of the biggest names in the industry (including Massive Attack and Primal Scream).  He was invited to perform and give a seminar about production at the South American Music Conference held in Buenes Airies in 2004 with some of the biggest DJs in the world (DJ Dan, Pete Tong, Derrick May, Eddie Richards, Bad Boy Bill, Danny Howells and Nick Warren).

Surrounded by a mainly progressive scene in South America, Jay followed the funk in his heart and the sound coming from the West Coast of America.  In the years between 2005 and 2007 this paid dividends with a string of releases on some of the most respected underground house labels in the world including Lowdown, Drop, Blockhead, Lost My Dog and Guest House and plays from every DJ woth mentioning in deep/jacking house circles.  Always original, funky and filled with groove, Jay's music is perfect for greedy dancefloors and comfortably crosses over into the sets of more traditional funky house DJs who have a keen ear for quality music.  In late 2006 he set up his own label Flavor Recordings alongside Matt Shrewd.
