Harold Heath

Harold Heath

Kahua Music WORLD EXCLUSIVE on Harold Heath's debut album 'Hole Funk'.

Harold Heath's super-charged house music productions have been winning accolades world-wide with support from the underground and overground alike. And with an innate ability to read the crowd, around 15 years of Djing experience, and a record box packed with exclusives from his own studio, Harold's DJ sets are not to be missed.

Harold's discography to date includes releases on Bushwacka's Oblong, tracks on UK labels Urbantorque, Sensei, Freaked, Boxa and Uhuru Beats, as well as releases on overseas outfits Groove Pleasure, Terraform, Stickman and Detour. He's also remixed Asad Rizvi's classic “ Slippery Heights ” and tracks for Household, Soco Audio and Urban Torque and had his tracks remixed by Paul Woolford, Tony Thomas, Asad Rizvi, Grant Del & Daniel Poli etc.

Starting his career in music as a rare groove DJ, Harold traveled a musical route familiar to many DJs – from Electro, Hip Hop, Rare Groove through to Acid House and beyond. Harold paid his DJ dues with a few years behind the decks at his infamous Blowyourown parties, a year long residency at the now-departed Eauzone in London , guest appearances at Brighton 's seminal Optical parties as well as slots all over the UK .

Moving to production in 2001, Harold soon found success with his first EP coming out on the well respected Stickman Records and soon DJs as varied as Layo and Bushwacka!, Ashley Beedle, Ralph Lawson, Terry Francis & Nathan Coles, Pete Tong, Dave Mothersole, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Tyler Stadius etc. were succumbing to the unique charms of Harold's dirty jacking house and tech funk.

The next step is an album; Urbantorque ("...the UKs best deep house label" – iDJ Magazine) will be capitalising on the success of Harold's massive tune “Long Relationships” by releasing his first album in 2005. With various world-wide DJing dates lined up to promote the album and with more EPs coming out on Sensei, Boxa, KGB, Urbantorque and Colin Dale's Rebel Audio, Harold is going to be having a busy year.

Harold Heaths's album - "Hole Funk"

We are very excited to be able to offer a worldwide exclusive on this stunning debut album here at Kahua...

Music evolves. The old, new, borrowed and blue are fused together and slowly new sounds are formed. In his debut album, ‘Hole Funk’ on Urbantorque, Harold Heath pays homage to some of the sounds that have influenced his musical progression, dexterously blending genres to create an album that’s both fresh and unique.

This will come as little surprise to those in the know, as, from the sublime hip-house of ‘Long Relationships’ to the magical sampling of soul queen Aretha Franklin on ‘Aretha’s Reign,’ Harold Heath’s previous productions have been diverse and distinctive. Having cut his teeth as a rare groove DJ later led astray by the acid house phenomenon, Harold moved into production in 2001. He quickly found success with a release on the well-respected Stickman Records, and gained support from the likes of Layo and Bushwacka!, Laurent Garnier, Ashley Beedle and Pete Tong. In the wake of this he has since released a string of productions on some of the finest deep and tech house labels around, including Urbantorque, Reverberations, Sensei and Sensei, and Oblong, to name but a few.

Following such success Harold’s decided to up the stakes and try his hand at producing an album, and the long-player format has allowed him the opportunity to indulge his musical passions and influences drawing together house, acid, hip hop, funk, electro and downtempo electronica. The result is an enthralling collection of rich and lovingly crafted electronic music. The record twists and turns from the groovy funk of opener ‘Hole Funk’ to the jacking hip-house of ‘Be My Friend’ onto the techy breakbeat of ‘Another Sky’ and into the laidback beats of ‘Toshiro’ and beyond. Harold’s drafted in the vocal talents of Katie Mummery and Bruce Zulu for added dimension, and tracks such as ‘Feel the Love’ are beautifully lifted by Katie’s dreamy voice. Despite the diversity, each distinct track is connected by Harold’s unfaltering commitment to the musical qualities of depth and funk, and it’s this that gives the album its continuity and flow.
